Jack was born in Litchfield, Il. Sept. 10, 1947. Six years later he and his older sister Joyce, reluctantly moved to Alton, Ill to live with his Mother and Stepfather. In 1966 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and after tours in Germany as a Combat Engineer and Vietnam as a Combat Artist / Illustrator and in 1970 was honorably discharged from the 113th Military Intelligence Group at Fort Sheridan, Illinois near Chicago. In 1973 he married his wife Phyllis, and they had 3 children John, Lisa and Michael. In 1979, he became an EMT and the following year, a paramedic. In 1981 he became an Industrial Paramedic and on to a safety consultant and OSHA outreach instructor. In 1999 he was forced to retire due to a serious neck and back injury that allowed him to devote all of his time to his passion of paranormal research and investigating.
In April of 1972 he became interested in ghosts after reading Dr. Hans Holzer’s 1966 book, “Ghost Hunter” He was recruited by a number of different small ghost hunting groups while attending college and the game was afoot.
After separating from his wife, he left Bethalto where they had lived 20+ years and returned to Litchfield where he founded the Litchfield / Springfield Illinois Ghost Trackers Group (LIGTG). In the early years it was known as the Litchfield Ghost Trackers. Since 2007 the group has grown to 27 members. At one point there were 33 members. Some of their investigations are the Alton Mineral Springs Hotel, McPike Mansion, James J. Eldred House, Virgil Hickox House, Elijah Isles House and numerous residential and private locations. In 2009, they performed 55 investigations, including return visits. So far in 2010 starting in February, so far, there are three on the books. It looks like it will be another busy year for the group.
